How to restore documents after windows restore

I restored my computer to 4/13/2012 and i lost all of my word adn excel documents, and pictures. All emails are there and appear to be fine.

i just went into the control panel and followed the options that were prompted. i believe i uesed one of the earlier updates from windows as my restore date. So if that only restores the operating systme will all my files in my documents, pictures ect. get lost?

As WR2 stated, system restore only effects the operating system, not personal files. If you lost files and pictures in "my documents", then something else is going on.

Why did you do a system restore? If it was to try and get rid of a virus, this won't work. When is the last time you ran a virus/malware scan?
