Router hardwired to pc no signal

Hello,
My modem hardwired to pc gets internet on pc, but when I put a router in between, the pc does not get internet. I have tried four routers, numerous cables. Could it be the nic? But it works directly from the modem. Could it be a simple setup issue? I'm stumped and all the I.T. "experts" I know personally cannot provide a solution. Even tech support for the routers say it could be a faulty router. But all four of them? Please help!

I have finally figured it out, thanks to my 72 yr old mother. In the network and sharing center, we turned on the network discovery. That was it!
