P910i networking advice

I have just received my P910i and I am very pleased with it. however,
I'm having a few problems with networking at home. I have a bluetooth
dongle and when in range and connected I can browse the web using
Opera. However, I can't use POP3 email - it keeps asking to connect
to GPRS. Is there a way around this or, even better, a site which
holds my hand through the whole process?

On a (sort-of) related matter, has anyone managed to get Avantgo
working on their P910i? It just hangs when I try to connect and sync
eventually throwing up an application error.
