How do i get my netgear wireless to work it will not take the serial number

i put in the serial number and it says problem netgear wpn824v2 it work with my dell but not with this toshiba

Hello and welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums.

When you say serial number, do you mean the wireless security key? Is your Toshiba older than the Dell - if so, it may only be able to recognise low levels of security such as WEP so if your router is secured to WPA or WPA2, the laptop can't "see" the network.
