Firmware update for IBM 60GXP

I see 'unoc' states '... IBM has already delivered a patch to upgrade the firmware of DTLA and 60GXP series which are famous to die to soon and not because of mechanical problems.'

Where can I find this patch? I can't see any montion of it on IBMs site.

I received the firmware upgrd from IBM by e-mail after a request to the tec support. I can send you by e-mail. It is a 1882 kb zipped file. The file is the DFT (drive fitness test) 3.20 with firmware upgrade.

Oh, great, I'll give it a try.

The firmware upgrade is supposed to fix the common failures that 60GXP's are reputed to have.

It seems there was no firmware upgrade in the DFT.

I sent IBM a message earlier today about this issue, they responded:

In response to your e-mail in regard to the firmware update for your
IBM 60GXP Hard drive, we have located the following Web sites that will

I ran the second one, and it indicated no firmware upgrade necessary.

I guess I'm safe... but we'll see how long it runs!

The DFT version delivered on the IBM web site is 3.01
I received from IBM tec support the software DFT ver. 3.2 which contain also the firmware upgrade.
I will send to btvillarin the firmware upgrade for both the 60GXP as well as the DTLA (75GXP).
