What is needed to connect desktop to wifi

I have a desktop & laptop computer connected with a usb bigpond stick,I want to connect these and my ipad to wifi together what hardware do I need and what changes are needed?

The laptop needs to be configured as a wireless hotspot. If the laptop is using Windows 7, you might want to consider Connectify for these purposes.

You could also employ a hardware solution. Just plug a wireless router into the ethernet port of the laptop, then bridge the laptop’s wired and 3G network connections in Network Connections.
