How to delete folder from desktop in windows 7

Hello,
I am on vacation in Italy and started downloading my photo files on the desktop of my hotel computer installed with windows 7 home. The computer has a C drive that has operating system and desktop and then a D drive. I have tried deleting the files and empty the trash, but when rebooted the files just come back. Is there a way I can permanently delete these fles from the desktop. Thank you
