Could someone reccommend an IDE hard drive that is the most silent hard drive you can possibly buy expecially for whinning noises (that high pitch squeel). Model numbers would help. also how does the 7200 rpm maxtors compare to the 5400 rpm? Thanks
MAXTOR Quiet Drive 40GB 7200RPM Model # 6L040L2-D740X.
get the 7200 rpm or you will lose a lot of speed. Its a pretty quiet drive anyway.

I cannot recommend the Maxtor. A friend om mine has it (fluid version), and I dont think the noise level is as low as expected. Shortly after he bought a Seagate Barracuda ATA IV. An wauv, what a difference. When the drive is Idle its virtually impossible to hear it spinning from the other noise in the cabinet, and thats allready low.
