The Event Viewer

Solution

The event log and crash dump are two different things. A crash dump can be sent away and be analysed.

The event log is still usefull, but crash dumps contain more information about the state of the computer at the time it crashed.

The error you are getting is related to Norton Internet Security. Try uninstalling it and see if the problem goes away.

Hello Hawkeye22,
Well, I installed Win7 Ultimate on an Intel DZ68BC build that I completed on Feb 5 and I've crashed it 3 times. Lucky for me, I made a system image backup so I was able to get it working again, but I still get errors. I had XP Pro on my old PC and Windows 7 is totally different.

I've been using a PC since @1979 and frankly I don't know a lot about the operating system. Just found a tutorial on how to make an event log but I'd like to learn more about it. Particularly how to up load the log file and send it out to be analized.

Almost daily I getting some kind of error. For instance one that came up today in the windows system log was ID 7020, on the detail d-box it said Parm1 ccSet_NIS This particular error comes up a lot.

Would like to know more about MMC 3.0 and if I can move the system reserved volume to another HDD and how to do it. Maybe something about the system registry. Any help you can give me will be appreciated.

Thanks for your reply.
Jim

Hawkeye,

I did some more investigation on the Norton Internet Security (NIS) that was show along with Norton 360 on my start menu. As it turns I don't think that NIS wasever installed properly. I looked in Programs and Feature but I didn't find it there.

I deleted all of NIS from my start menu today 4/24/12 since I could not find an uninstall for it on my PC. I hope that does not come back and bite me later.

I also read M.S./KB/315263 but this small memory dump check utility doesn't show anything about or how to do this in Windows 7.

Over the past week I've done a lot of outer things to repair my PC. The Action Center shows that I have no issues.

Thanks for the help.
Jim

??? Everything needed is listed on the link I posted earlier. If you are asking how the dump file gets created, it automatically gets created when windows blue screens as long as you have the dump type configured properly.
