Does anyone have an informed opinion about either (or both) of these?
I was considering investing in the MK2 capsules for my Schoeps bodies,
but some have placed the DPA omni's on a higher sonic plane.

They are different. I have both, and they are both good, but different.
I think the top end on the DPA is a little more etched than the Schoeps.
The Sennheiser MKH-20 is quieter but a little funny in the lower midrange.
The Josephson mikes built with measurement capsules are a little noisier
but I think they are flatter in the upper midrange area than either the
Schoeps or the DPA mikes.

i used MK2 over two decades ago until i got B&K 4006 (now DPA)
i used them for two decades until i got a pair of Earthworks QTC1
if you don't have the budget for QTC1 pair, you might want to try the DPA
4060
(you should explicitly ask for a matched pair as they are very different
from one another)
i think dorsey pretty well nailed it above. i have used both, and
they are both excellent - as good as it gets. the choice of capsules
is very important with the schoeps system, as i have had several
colleagues who have had to do a bit of experimenting with getting just
the right omni caps for the specific applications they need, but once
they find the right ones, they are quite satisfied. my best
experiences have been with the DPA 4006s (coupled with HV3 pres),
which i have found useable in almost any situation. both DPA and
schoeps display impeccable build quality. i must add that DPA owners
here in the states are very lucky to have amazing customer support
provided by bruce myers, who has an amazing range of experience, and a
great attitude. i might also add that although i love the diffuse
sound of good omnis, i still prefer the DPA 4011 cards for most
applications due to the superior imaging, and the ability to control
bass response through placement in both studio and remote venues.
bottom line - you simply cannot go wrong with either the schoeps or
DPA systems, though i could say the same thing about the josephsons
and the sennheiser mkh series.
