my second PSU is capout?

Forum CPU & Components : Other Components my second PSU is capout?

hi all

i have an issue with my comp. since 12 hours my comp hangs up or reboots randomly. the temps are correct (cpu 42°C mb 28°C). my memory is 512MB of Crucial PC133 CAS2.
during the afternoon i succeeded yet to POST but the OS couldn't start. the comp rebooted at half of its loading. i was obligated to set the BIOS to defaults (erasing the overclocking settings) & ran my comp at STOCK speed. now my comp works again but it is yet at the edge of a wild reboot.
i think my 300 watts PSU is down. (this would be the second PSU i crashed)

add: there is also my ide led which stays always slightly on.

what do you think about? any comments are welcome.

thanks.

300W power supplys are really standard issue today in most off the shelf case purchases, however they were not at all designed for overclocking, If you're sure your power supply is the problem move up to about 400W and that should get you past a repeat of the same thing.

You never know what you can do until you try.

my new configuration for overclocking purpose:
TB 1.333 'C' Type
(1x) 512MB Corsair XMS3200 CAS2.5 (Platinum series)
Abit KX7-333R
(2x) 40GB IBM 120GXP RAID0 + (1x) 40GB IBM 60GXP - 7200RPM
Tekram DC-390 U2W
(1x) 9.1GB IBM DRVS9 U2W 10.000RPM
Pioneer CDR + Yamaha CDRW SCSI drives + Creative DVDR IDE drive
HP139A DAT2 SCSI tape
AIW Radeon 32 - AGP2X
Audigy Player
3COM NIC card
USB Alcatel ADSL modem
USB Agfa scanner
Innovatek Cooling Kit

Plus i am wondering if i must change the PSU, which one i should buy between the Enermax 431 watts $100 & the Enermax 550 watts $150, which is 50% more expensive.

At last, is someone knows what are the Active PFC & FCA functions & the difference between the FMA & the FCA versions? i am a bit confusing here.

i am going to buy it online now, thanks alot for an ASAP answer before my system crashes again. :)

ps: i was willing to precise a little this before buying it.

finally i have chosed the Enermax EG651P-VE-FMA - 550watts.
it has a lower +12v channel than the 431watts but higher +3v & +5v channels (total output power of 551watts, 300watts/86Amps summing those two channels). i think this PSU fits as best as we can expect overclocking needs. it is also ATX 2.03 certified (for the last P4 processors). i read a review which explains you can power a peltier as well.

IMO you made an excellent choice. I have the EG651P-VE and like it.
