When installing WinXP it asks to reformat and all that good stuff but what is the difference and what does it effect when they give the option of doing a quick format or not?

When you format a floppy it says quick just erases all the files on the disk. My friend said the quick format for hard drives is the same and you only do it when you are formating to the same file system. What if you do quick when switching?!

you may do quick if you wish too. older OSs didn't give you the option to format within the installation process, but winxp does.

and another thing to keep in mind is that formating never erases any thing, but well i'll pu tit this way; it verifies the disk space and allows you to over write old files, but it also writes a new fat32 or ntfs to the very out side of the platters to make it look as if every thing has been erased.
