12 Computers For Christmas
Archived from groups: rec.audio.pro (More info?)
I am just starting out in recording my rock band & want some advice for computer recording equipment. For recording I have: Pentium 4 3GHz laptop 512MB RAM 30GB internal HDD & 120GB external firewire/USB2 HDD Integrated firewire & USB2 Windows XP Pro For mixing & mastering I will transfer the project onto: AMD Athlon XP3200+ desktop 1GB PC3200 RAM 120GB SATA HDD 80 GB ATA100 HDD Integrated firewire & USB2 Windows XP Pro For mics I already have 2 x SM58 mics & a couple of cheap "SM58 clones" but reckon on needing: 1 x kick mic 1 x snare mic 4 x tom mics 2 x overhead/hi-hat mics The 2 x SM58s I already have will probably see use on the 2 guitar cabs & I will DI the bass (I think). I am looking for 8-10 mic inputs to allow me to record mostly live into Cubase VST 5 (if absolutely necessary I could upgrade to SX). Can anybody recommend: 1) Multi-input (8-10) audio interface, firewire or USB2 2) Mics that will not break the bank but should give me good results I know most of the time budget is the BIG question so lets say up to £400 for the audio interface & same again for the mics. Thanks Eddie
