I own a multi format recording studio and am finally adding Protools
and a computer to the set up...

I currently have 24 track 2", 16 track 1" and 24 tracks of ADAT-XT 20,
and lots of outboard gear all wired through tt patch bays and
connected to my CAD Maxcon 2 Recording Console

I want to know if I am making the right selection of gear...I am
considering adding a Digi 002 (not the rack model) wired to another tt
patchbay with a 17" G4 Powerbook (Due to space limitations in the
room)

I want to be able to use protools for recording along with editing in
potentially all of the formats we are using

Is there any conflict with the power book and the digi 002?
Is there a specific version of mac os for the powerbook that is
requred?

Does anyone have a rig like this used and in good working order for
sale?

Any information/suggestions are greatly appreciated

Before wiring everything through an additional patchbay, work out if
this is really necessary. As sound-processing moves more and more on
to the computer, I see many small studios where the patchbay
connections are rarely if ever changed. You might be able to save
space, expense (and lots of additional contact points to maintain).

Steve -
I too am considering this combination. From what I've read on the
DUC, there's no problems...I understand yr concern: the new 17" G4
Powerbook isn't on digi's official qualified list, but from the ppl on
the DUC, it's pretty much a purchase, power up and go scenario. And
most people are saying they get a full 32 trax with light to moderate
plug-in use without the Mac slowing down.
If you want a sort-of non-digidesign-affiliated
quasi-rocket-scientist's opinion, go on over to Roger Nichols' forum
www.i-oforums.net (I think that's the site...If my brain is a bit
sun-fried today, just Google Roger and the link should show up on his
personal site. I think there may even be a thread to this effect
there.

I'm just wondering how much good a 002 will do you, since you can only
transfer eight tracks at a time.

The Digi 002 will transfer 16 (18?)
tracks at a time.

Right... I was thinking about the original poster's description of the
2" analog. Since his post didn't say anything about an additional,
outboard converter, I figured the lightpipe input was useless to him. I
forgot that he also has a rack of ADATs. You're right, he can transfer
another 8 tracks of ADAT.

Considering the price of used ProTools, I would think you might go for a
full system rather than the 02.

The 02 is a nice starter and learning system, but fairly limited eh?
