A friend of mine is curious whether there is any device that can transfer
audio from one (or more) compact cassettes at a rate faster than realtime.
The destination would be a PC or some other digital device.
I was ashamed to admit that I wasn't aware of any such solution . . .

The question is whether it has to sound good or not. If it doesn't have to
sound good, it's possible to connect a duplicator master to a high speed
data acquisition card, and I know a couple folks have hacked up such things
for the KABA machines with National Instruments cards, sampling at 8X.
Forget getting the azimuth correct, and forget reasonable flutter specs,
but for voice grade applications if you have huge amounts of material it
might be worth it.
