I would think it'sfar more worth the hassle than trying to find a new
console that's on par with the Spirit, functionally speaking, and near
the right price category.
You might try contacting "Sarge" at Creation Audio Labs in Nashville.
I understand that not only has he done this for a couple of clients, but
for his own desk as well.... 120 degree caps and Burr-Brown's IIRC.
I just picked up an old 800B from him that's been removed from a church
install and totally redone in this fashion.... I should be able to comment
before the end of the month.

Depends what you mean by 'better' op-amps.
Actually, the mic pre's performance is largely limted by the discrete part
of the circuit. The op-amp stage gives only a 10x voltage gain which a
TL07x will do just fine.

Since it's largely SMD, it's not worth the hassle.
What's wrong with the sound of yours btw ?
What do you expect to achieve by using transformers ?

** SMDs are not used in the larger Spirit desks - nor in most of the
smaller ones.
Pooh should keep out of the honey pot - all that sugar is bad for his
ADHD.
