With Win2K and WinXP, you can use the installation CD's to create a limited number of partitions, and the CD's can also format the active, primary partition. Other partitions can be formatted after they are created by right-clicking the logical drive icons, and choosing to format from the right-click menu.

If you'll take the time to read the information in the links I've provided, you'll know more than enough to partition and format a hard drive without any difficulty.

One caveat: If you create more than one partition on a disk, and then decide to remove them, it must be done in the reverse order of the original creation. First the logical drives, then the extended partitions, and finally, the primary DOS partition. If you do it any other way, such as removing the primary DOS partition first, the other partitions will be inaccessible, and you'll have to low level format the disk to remove them, usually with a utility from the drive manufacturer, or some other third-party program.
