THIS WEEK ONLY (7/14 thru 7/20) at COMPUSA - WD1200JBRTL for $279.99 list minus $20 INSTANT Rebate and $110 MAIL-IN REBATE makes FINAL COST $149.99 ........ I just bought TWO. (They also have the 80 GB for $99.99 after Rebates) These are full RETAIL box with cable.

I have to decide if I will KEEP these two IDE drives and buy an IDE RAID CARD -or- USE AN "ULTRA 160 setup" instead...... A single 36GB, 15,000 RPM (3.4 ms) IBM or FUJITSU (?) ULTRA 160 drive with Adaptec 19160. I am building a new "high end" workstation and want RELIABILITY #1 and SUPERIOR PERFORMANCE #2 !!

Actually, I just printed out the WD Rebate form from the link on CompUSA's site and it says:

<i>To Receive your $120 rebate Purchase a 120GB Hard Drive at CompUSA between 6/22/02 and 6/29/02.</i>

I'm just wondering where you saw the dates 7/14 thru 7/20. I'd love to pick up a couple of these drives for this price, but don't want to go get them and then not be able to get the rebate from WD.

I seldom "visit" ANY CompUSA stores, but out of curiousity went to the brand NEW store in Brandon, FL (near Tampa) yesterday. By "chance" I saw the display for these WD HD's and you might know I am STILL undecided if I want to go ULTRA160 SCSI or not (another matter, another post)...... but I PURCHASED these TWO WD IDE's anyway.... have 14 days to return for full refund (sealed box).
OKAY, about REBATE (sorry) I would NOT have purchased until I had VALID REBATE in hand.... which I DID (lookin' at rebate coupon right now.....) They are "special" CompUSA / Western Digital REBATES (#8398) and drives MUST be purchased ONLY from CompUSA and BETWEEN 7/13/02 and 7/20/02 -and- REBATE MUST BE POSTMARKED no later than 14 days from purchase and RECEIVED no later than 8/3/02. Guess they hope many will "slip-up" and be inelligible for their $110. Oh yes, one mo' thing..... as usual.... ONLY ONE rebate per household. Play by the rules and you'll get your $$

Just picked up two for myself, to now make it a total of 6 WD1200JB's for my RAID5 Config.
