Setup freeze

Hi, whenever I try to install a game or program (happens more often for games), the setup process freezes at random intervals. Not the kind of freeze where it crashes or gets the 'not responding' error message, but I can't click anything or advance to the next part of the setup until it goes away. It's really strange, and only started happening two weeks ago. I'm running Ultimate 32-bit. Thanks

Setup from DVD drive? ie initial installation or just loading pre-installed game/software...

Oh yeah my bad, I forgot to add that this is whenever I setup from the DVD Drive, be it a disc or mounted files

Would suspect the drive, then. Give it a blow-out in case its something simple like a spec of dust on the lens. Consider reseating cables. PC or laptop?

PC, and I just cleaned the drive a bit, but the problem seems to persist.

Could you borrow a drive from someone just to eliminate it from the rig? Also try it in a different SATA slot, and a different SATA lead if you have one.

Oh yeah thanks, I haven't tried it in a different lead! I'll try that now.

Is there a possibility it could be a software or OS problem though?

Doubt it's software, try installing something from a USB flash drive if you have one, or an SD card via a card reader, just in case it's windows installer.
