Trying not to digress but isn't it really time to move on? The real
reason behind all the Steam venting is that it has proven to be a very
effective system against piracy and MP punks. There are the few punks
that boast about their particular non-Steam "solution" but the forums
are flooded with idiots that have had their accounts banned for trying
these "solutions", finding they don't work exactly the way they
thought, do the "right thing" by buying a legitimate version to find
they are still banned or find their Steam account has been stolen (gee,
wonder how that happened?). No point going into that situation at any
length. The non-Steam "solution" punks find that it takes a legitimate
account to get updates and there have been several Counter Strike:
Source updates lately, with more free maps and updates to the SDK. The
bottom line is you have to be a brain-dead idiot to not "get" Steam and
you either get it or you don't. Geez, I have set up three separate
Steam accounts, not including the early betas, one for myself, one for
a friend and one for the HL2 demo, with zero problems. I finished Half
Life 2, what, almost two months ago now? Never had any of the
stuttering problems being "reported" except for a CTD a couple of
times, no big deal. I still have Half Life 2 withdrawals and it is
difficult to tolerate a game now that is not up to HL2 standards, but I
play Counterstrike: Source occasionally for that. A lot of the noise
post volume is really about Counterstrike: Source and the need for
Steam. Counterstrike was always huge and it looks like CS:S is even
bigger, there are over 200,000 peak now every day MP over Steam.
But it is really time to move on. There are other big PC games over
the next few weeks like KOTOR 2 and Silent Hunter III, just not Action.
But these other action games coming out over the next few weeks look
interesting and I will probably get them all. It must be horrible to be
poor and have to spend a large part of a miserable life fretting over a
$50 game. Thank goodness that isn't even a blip on my radar screen.

I totally agree about the difficulty to play games that fail to measure
up to HL2.

Whoa! Objection, your honor! Both sides can debate until they're
blue in the face about Steam as a content delivery system. But to say
Steam has been effective against piracy is insane. Come on. Pirates
playing online on non-cracked servers? You'd think a simple check of
the cdkey would be enough to stop that, but apparently not.

well... we in the pc games are dependant of microsoft, and for some
time now microsoft elected xbox as there prime platform for games,
and relegated pc games for second place and that's very damaging
regulator should make microsoft license win32/directx technology so
we should not be dependant on them cause they have been favoring
xbox as the platform of choice for games

with xbox next its even worse... the reports microsoft want to make
an xbox next special version which will run pc games is the same
as microsoft declaring it wants pc games dead!

xbox next can be a real threat to pc games... so i'm very anxious
to know what will come from it
after steam, microsoft itself, and piracy, xbox is the next big
menace to pc games not cause of being a console system but cause
its like a brother to pc games with the same father microsoft but
the problem being father microsoft making it there favorite son
and neglecting old brother pc games

Microsoft is not the only publisher for PC games or console games. EA is
much larger than Microsoft Games. Oh, and Microsoft is still releasing high
profile games for the PC and not the Xbox.

This is the first I heard of this. Your source?

The Xbox is not any bigger threat against PC gaming than the Playstation.
Console games will always outsell PC games for the simple fact that consoles
are cheaper and the games are easier to use. I haven't stopped playing PC
games when I purchased an Xbox and Gamecube. In fact, I bought more PC games
last year than console games because I bought a new computer. Damn you Doom
3.

i hasn't talking about microsoft as a pc game publisher but rather the
company who owns the MONOPOLY on pc game operating systems
that's what makes microsoft bad for pc games
as a pc game publisher microsoft is for a action gamer a mediocre one,
would you agree?
and yes ea is way too big already... and its not good for pc games
i hope they will not take over ubisoft!

> This is the first I heard of this. Your source?

yes, you are right... i read it last year in this group in the middle
of a thread a gamer writing about it
i don't know its source, neither if its reliable
nevertheless, if its true its extremely worrisome for pc games, but you
being a xbox gamer you would not understand

> The Xbox is not any bigger threat against PC gaming than the Playstation.

you didn't understand, i was not talking about xbox the console, cause i
don't fear competition! competition is extremely necessary and pc games
should have many consoles to compete with, what i was talking about was
microsoft controlling TWO gaming platforms, the xbox and pc games and its
favoring xbox over pc games, and that's damaging
i don't mind you xbox gamers having microsoft
i only ask for microsoft to leave pc games and let others do a windows
win32/directx clone compatible operating system for us pc gamers to choose
i'm only asking for microsoft not having control over the TWO cause its
a conflict of interests don't you agree?

So you admit the rumor probably isn't true. Yet, you act like it is. That's
a dangerous habit to have.

No, it isn't.

totally wrong mickey!
we are talking about pc games!
for pc games there is no choice! no choice!
unfortunately we are dependant on microsoft monopoly to play pc games!
linux is a choice for other applications not for pc games!
so please mickey get your act together!

i admire linux!
i think linux is much better than ms for many many applications
but once and for all... lets make this very clear...
PC GAMES ARE TOTALLY DEPENDANT ON MICROSOFT OPERATING SYSTEM!
THIS IS NOT SOMETHING YOU CAN ARGUE! ITS REALITY!
NO PC GAMER CAN RUN AWAY FROM MICROSOFT PERIOD!

its very unfortunate this happening, i really think being dependant
on microsoft is bad for pc games... but i would not want pc games
to move completely to linux cause we already have invested too much
money in our personal game collections to have to change and throw
all that away...
the only solution for me is for microsoft license win32/directx

On second thought, let him keep the numpad and alt key.
