I just finished building my new computer and there is a problem with the Floppy Drive. It had worked fine in my last machine but now the green light on it remains on all the time like a disk is in it and it wont read floppy disk's. In the windows Device manager it shows up fine and says working properly.
You could have the cable connected upside down into the floppy drive, if not look in the Bios at bootup or swap it out! I have disconnected floppy drives and booted without them, shutdown and plugging them back in as this can sometimes work. Good luck.
Funny thing about those floppy cables, they can only go on 1 way, but there are 7 possible ways to do it wrong. The end with the twist is attached to the floppy with the red strip (pin 1) on the right side. This is what trips most people up, because Pin 1 is on the left side of IDE devices.
At least half of all problems are caused by an insufficient power supply!
If the LED is staying on the cable is not hooked up right, Red stripes go to Pin 1 on the connectors, and the ribbon cable twist always goes to the floppy drive itself, and contrair the connector at the floppy drive can be flipped over.
