UK Custom PC Builders

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a company to go to for a custom PC in the UK (or at the least in Europe)? I am planning a new PC, and have pretty much nailed down what I want out of it (specs at the end of the post in case it changes your recommendation), but I'm not sure where to go to actually buy it. My current top choices are wired2fire.co.uk and cyberpowersystem.co.uk - the former because I've heard good things about Beast Computers, and they're effectively the same company now, and the latter because it had some PC games mags' recommendations. I have used Alienware before and had a bad experience, so I'm not in a hurry to try them again.

Thanks in advance.

Specs:
PSU: 600W
CPU: Intel Core i5 2500k
GPU: nVidia GeForce 560 Ti 1GB
RAM: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz (Side question: is 8GB pointless? Should I just get 4GB and worry about extra memory years down the line?)
Motherboard: Asus P8P67 (Pro if possible)
Hard Drive: 1TB
Optical: DVD-RW
OS: None (I have my own copy of Windows 7, Wired2Fire said if I gave them my code they could install it for me without charge - some companies don't have this option on their website but might do it if asked specifically, basically it knocks about £60 off the price if looking at Home Premium, £70-80 for Professional)

Estimated cost: £750

I have had a pc from cyberpower and it went back about five time. I now have a water cooled pc from Scan and the build quality is amazing much better than me Alienware or Cyberpower pc. They will build it exactly as you ask.

I should add that I have a very good overclock on the graphics cards and processor and it is very stable. In one year I haven't had a problem. I really can't recommend them enough.

aria uk and overclockers uk do build to order

overclockers uk have a real time configurator where you can change options as you like--you can even have them overclock it for you if you want--though its simple enough to do it yourself

you havent said which case--overclockers have 6 or 7 cases in their configurator

+1 to overclockers.co.uk and scan.co.uk.

You definitely don't need 8GB of Ram just yet. But it's good to know you can have it later.

never heard of them, and why not Z68, best of both worlds, quicksynch and OC capable, and if you are not going to OC then lose the 2500K.

SCAN and OCUK are both very good builders, recommended +1

Hello, Gwardinen and welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums.

You could get a surrpise if you made it yourself and found you were the best builder you knew. It's a satisfying feeling when you've built your first one, as well as a nice feeling in the wallet.

Because Danielt1_54 it appears you're going out of your way to advertise them (see other threads here).

I bet if the mods did a search on your IP it would show you up on Hall Lane in Walsall wouldn't it? You know, the same place that registered that domain on the 1st December last year...

Is that the one with no company registration or postal address on its site? That site should be off the net by teatime.

January 4, 2012 3:00:59 PM

it isn't at companies house either (yet?), they don't charge vat, so might not be vat registered. This sounds like a person acting as if they are a company, i.e. a normal ebay person vs an ebay store.

Daniel, just tell us that you are, or deny it, and it can end appropriately, you really do need to get registered at companies house, and get some extra details on the website. Don't pretend to be what you are not, as it will leave a bad taste in everyones mouth.

I'm not sure, but that need not be required. Just don't plug your own company, get a following here and it would do you well, especially as toms has no sales arm, compared to say hexus.

Just be who you are, be transparent, its where trust starts.

It'll be admins that determine if you have to leave.
January 4, 2012 3:39:33 PM

what remove the references to your site?
you can edit your own posts, it'll be a good first step to rehabilitation :)
January 4, 2012 3:50:13 PM

ahhh, PM audiovoodoo if he hasn't done it after a little while, as he might not be realising you are asking.

also remember that it public information if you care to look.
January 4, 2012 5:02:09 PM

Good luck with it - I hope it takes off because it's a good idea. Advertising is expensive but in the early years, it's also essential. As has been said, get a good following here in Hardware and CPU sub-Forums, link to your website in your Profile and it could be beneficial.

ok then but could audiovoodoo remove my details off both forums, please?

No, it's public information available via any whois search. If you didn't want that information public you should have asked your registrar to put it in their name for you.

Frankly I think you have a cheek asking for any favours from anybody and this page should stand to show the sort of business practice you operate.

If the mods want to request it of me then I'll consider it.

round of applause to audiovoodoo

even though your website wasnt likely to fool many people as it was so amateurish

what you did was totally deceptive and underhanded--the idea of this forum is to help people not deceive them

Yes it was but he seems to have learnt from the stinging remarks that followed. He could have posted in Deals that this was his new business start and no-one would have bothered. His mistake was to behave like a customer of what turned out to be own venture.

It's hard getting off the ground as a one-man-band and I think he deserves getting off with no more than a pair of hot ears.

January 4, 2012 6:14:48 PM

I'm with saga on this, he has shown contrition, and admitted his part in it, true there are some things missing from his site that need sorting out.

I would ask that he is given the benefit of the doubt, if he cannot offer appropriate advice etc. and prove his tech abilities then it will show itself.
January 4, 2012 6:15:14 PM

Maybe he should open a showroom now that I've advertised his address..
January 4, 2012 6:17:10 PM

Mine's on my website and flagged on Google Earth! :D  The silly beggars masked my number plate and messed up my magnetic advert.

January 4, 2012 6:32:48 PM

well going by his website and his approach

i doubt he even had any stock to sell

so if genuine members of this forum had placed and paid for orders for pcs that never arrived--would he still be

given the benefit of the doubt?

anyway thats only my opinion and not looking to start an arguement over it

but i still appluad audiovoodoo for not removing the info

and the mods will decide in the end up
April 12, 2012 6:27:26 PM

Random follow on question. Are we not allowed to advertise businesses on the forum? I haven't as I thought it might be a bit rude. Sorry for hijacking thread!
April 12, 2012 6:42:59 PM

you might want to PM a mod, I think it is covered in the rules etc.
April 12, 2012 7:29:22 PM

Ok, i was just curious. thanks
April 12, 2012 7:48:11 PM

you up Nr scotland? to be honest there's probably <1% of people on here that would be local enough to use you, yes its an avenue, but its not going to give you a lot back. might be useful to watch and see what common problems are, but you should be helping us out here given that you're the pro. :)
April 12, 2012 8:20:57 PM

lol i will post help when i can. but yea i imagine there is a small number of people frim the north east on here
April 15, 2012 11:41:49 PM

Just try and at least get to know a few regulars and establish some credibility on the site and light doses of self promotion will likely not be an issue. Post fake reviews for your own company without disclosure then expect the chimps to fling poop! ;-)

that was an interesting time, he just would not admit it was his own company he was recommending.
