Can i install window xp and windows 7 on the same computer

Can I install windows XP on the same laptop that I already have windows 7? I need windows XP to be able to use my old HP printer.

  1. You can, but Win 7 has basic drivers for printing to older HP printers (the scanning can be iffy, at least in my experience). At any rate here below are steps to create dual boot. Read thoroughly before attempting (looks like you'll do option 2)

    You'll obviously need copies and keys of both OS's.

    If you have Windows 7 Pro, Ultimate or Enterprise your best bet is to install the free Windows XP Mode, which will take care of HP issues: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx

    It is much less hassle than dual booting and far more convenient. XP mode is free.

  4. Or that ^! Rarely talk to anyone with other than home premium so forget about that feature.
  5. Yeah, if you have Home Premium then you have to run an add on virtual machine, like VMWare Player or the Oracle VM Virtualbox.

    They are both free and both work quite well. I'm partial to VMWare Player as I use VMWare Workstation. For either of these you would need a key for XP.
