When running 2 programs my computer bogs down and when running 3 programs it sometimes freezes up. I have a program that tells me how much memory I am using and it says that I,m using 200 to 249 m out of 256 I have on my computer and that is when no programs are running. What is it that eats up so much memory even when I am not using any programs. Ive only got a few little icons on the bottom task bar (Norton, Pc Alert ).I,m running Windows 98.
maybe you have a virus?
or maybe you have no more room on your hard drive.
if you are running out of room, you wont have any room for a page file, and windows needs a page file to operate properly.
scan for viruses....<A HREF="http://housecall.antivirus.com/" target="_new">http://housecall.antivirus.com/</A>
and if it finds anything, then it might be the problem!
some viruses multiply themselves rapidly, causing your system to bog down.
what processor do you have?
give us some more system specs...other than the ammount of ram you have.
I was going for the "Don't worry and don't mess too much yet" approach, but I suppose you could also check out your system.ini file and see what Vcache setting you have.
Also post your gfx. Onboard? Gfx aperture size (BIOS).

heh..yeah..maybe when people try and load it is when the server gets real slow.
i know i cant be the only one experiencing the random slowdown...like every once in a while, the pages here take forever to load.
yeah, my dsl can download stuff at 400k+...and most other pages load in a snap.
but this site...usually is pretty slow.
maybe it is the large ammount of users, or the immense ammounts of posts.heh..
i dunno tho
but it is too bad that it isnt faster.
but yeah, every once in a while, it does get better, and doesnt take forever to load.
There is about 15 items in the cont alt del box. I shut them down one at a time which gave me about 5 meg more of memory. I have a 60 gig HD with lots of space and a xp 1800 chip.
