does anybody here own it? it seems like this writer is useless for burning protected cds...i'm so pissed at myself by replacing my beloved plextor with this POS!

What are yuou trying to copy? I understand that the TDK and the Lite On are roughly the same drive and Lite On's are well known for their abilities. Maybe you have a software issue.

BTW the Lite On is a better deal cause you don't gotta wait for a rebate (I have both).

I've got the same burner theres nothing wrong with it, its the copy protection on the CDs you're trying to copy, Try Clone CD, works well with Nero, you can find a link to the download at <A HREF="http://www.bootdisk.com" target="_new">http://www.bootdisk.com</A>on the utilities page.

Yeah I've got one too. I just double checked and it does support RAW DAO and RAW SAO modes and can copy safedisks just fine. Please explain exactly what you are having trouble with. I believe the TDK to be one of the best drives out there. Even so I tell folks to go Lite On because they are similar and the LO is cheeper. I've got both and like them both.
