It better have more than a nice cover for me to waste more money on it.
Like a flash light thats not treated like a gun for a start.

I a couple previews I've read, there will be a few weapons will have an
attached flashlight. Thank God!

Wow! The flashlight will be attached to weapons? Great way to KILL
ATMOSPHERE, which was the whole point of Doom 3 and the reason why
people didn't understand why iD deliberately handicapped the player's
flashlight in the original.

As for the flashight being treated as a gun, it never was. It was
treated as a club. ;)

The real reason iD handicapped you with that piss poor flashlight was
framerate management.
Doom 3 was, and still is, a tech demo. Unable to run at decent speed with
all objects visible.
Where did the creatures go after you killed them ? Up in smoke....very
convenient.

How? It's just one more dynamic light in a sea of hardware-intensive
dynamic lights. It's not really going to tip the scales and cause things
to run MUCH worse then they already are. Smells like a design based on
gameplay reasons rather than technical (to me).

Well... yes, you're completely correct there. I tried a mod I found once
that would keep the corpses there permanently. Completely unplayable.

Great! I can't wait. I for one Loved Doom 3 just the way it was. From what
I've read the expansion is going to have a much more lit up and expansive
enviornment. Great!

But who wants an expansion for such a poor game?

At least it seems like id learned their lessons ;): A light on the helmet
should help with the darkness and the gravity gun with all the HL2 hypers
ignoring the physics in Doom 3. But I am most curious about the timestop,
because the last real bullettime in a FPS I do remember was in Requiem...

Thusly "Mother Farquhar" <fake@ddress.com> Spake Unto All:

Doom3 was quite an OK game. More atmospheric than Riddick, for sure.
One just had to add the flashlight-mod and the Reznor sounds-mod.

Name me one, just ONE, time in Doom 3 where you could use physics to
kill something. We ignored the physics in Doom 3 because, like most
games before HL2, physics was used for cosmetic effect only.

Hi,

Hmm. I'd have to see some pretty good reviews before spending money on
the expansion... oh wait, Doom 3 got 93-94% reviews, which is pretty
much the theoretical maximum anyway. Maybe the expansion will be rated
105%? Maybe we'll see some sportscaster-like effort inflation going on
to promote this new wonder.

#the good news is the cover is awesome

Well, that's a relief! haha

# and its a worldwide release for everyone at the same time like it
#should always be

I agree with that, but being in the U.S. (and not waiting desperately
for foreign titles like AquaNox III), policies like that don't really
affect me.

I'll not rehash what makes Doom3 great and not, but I'll say this about
the expansion- it better have some real fixes and improvements, like
CoD:UO did. Things like an integrated flashlight, larger arenas,
vehicles, Cooperative play, much larger multiplayer limits. If it
doesn't and just comes with a few new end bosses, there's no reason for
me to buy it, to just slog through more corridors just for the sake of
slogging through more corridors.

No way I'll not get this expansion, I loved Doom3, no other game has come
close to generating such a tense atmosphere. I'm currently playing the Doom
II for Doom3 add-on, wow, what a mix of nostalgia and Doom3's gr8 graphics!
Games like Farcry and HL2 were very good but are already off my hard drive,
been there done that.

Is this like that mod that recreated Doom maps for Doom 3?

By definition the theoretical maximum is 100%. Perhaps you mean the
'practical maximum'.

I stand corrected.
