I currently use a basic modem to connect to the internet on my desktop. I want to buy a router so that i can use internet on my laptop and tablet via Wifi. I don't know much about networking and routers.

So, do I need to buy a PCIe network card/adapter for the motherboard as well or not? I'm not sure if I have one of those inbuilt on my motherboard. In device manager, there is a network adapter called Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller, but I think it has nothing to do with Wifi.

My motherboard is a Gigabyte 78LMT S2P.

if you buy a router, you should be able to connect you current computer via network cable to the router.

however if you want to connect wirelessly to the router you will need to purchase a wireless network card.
