Router problem?

I've had the Linksys WRT54G for a couple of years now and recently I've had bad consistency in my connection. Sometimes the internet speed just drops so slow that loading a web page is a problem and I wonder if its my routers fault since I'm planning to replace it and i don't want to waste money replacing a working router. Also sometimes the internet just disconnects for a few minutes and during those minutes I was unable to access the router.

Modem: Westell Model 6100
ISP: Verizon
Router: Linksys WRT54G

This has happened to me multiple times, i think it's the ISP (i have Verizon as well). I have two standard verizon routers and it has happened on both.

Not sure of any real solutions besides contacting them.
