Windows 7 not connecting to internet

Hello,
I have a mate who cannot his toshiba notebook to the internet. It seems to be able to detect that a connection is available, however, it will not let him physically connect. Any help appreciated!

Try repair network connection!

Go to network connections-- right click on the detected internet connection icon-- press repair.

Is this ethernet connection or wireless?

Also, try opening a CMD prompt and pinging www.google.com, this will check to see if it is a DNS problem

Had a similar issue the other day. I was able to connect, but I basically got an error message stating something like "connection made but with limited connectivity" or something to that effect.

I solved it by turning off the modem for 10 seconds, then from within Win 7, I disabled the internet connect, then re-enabled it. Problem solved after several seconds.
