Just recently I purchased a Packard Bell (just like the local computer
expert suggested.) This thing's /loaded/. It has a 486DX4 processor
(overclocked to 100MHz), 512mb of RAM and a Geforce 4 TI 4200 PCI
128MB. Doom III seems to have trouble /opening/ the installer and I am
getting fairly frustrated. I am trying to run it using WINE and FreeBSD
5.1
Perhaps someone has experienced my problem? Maybe I need newer drivers?
I got Doom II to work; it runs flawless.

D3 doesn't work so well on Linux. You should be able to pick up a copy
of Win95 or 98 cheap on Ebay.

Aah sorry, my mistake. Are all drivers up to date etc? Brand new PC's
*can* be a little buggy at first.

The guys running a 100 Mhz 486 (I know this post is BS) I doubt the problem
is the video card.

Did you read the Min System Requirements on the side of the Doom 3 game box
prior to buying it? Cause it states that you need at least a Pentium 1.5ghz
or an Athlon 1500+. Things have changed in the gaming world since Doom 3
was released.

If you are serious with this question (?), did you check the Hardware
Requirements on the Doom 3 game box when you bought it? Your system will
NOT run it. Not even close.

Your video card isn't VLB or EISA. You aren't utilizing the full
potential of your motherboard. And don't forget that OS/2 will run most
Windows apps, try to find and OS/2 emulator instead of a Windows one.
