While I'm a happy owner of 8 CAD mics, I bought the first one and checked it
out before diving in any further.

They are basically the same as the U-87 lookalikes from MXL, ADK,
NADY, Cascade, et al. and for around $50 are probably the best deal
compared to the others.

I got a couple as part of a promo when I ordered a pair of other (much
better) CAD mics. The GXL2200 is very bright with scooped mids. Not
useable for solo anything but depending on what else is going on you
can get away with them in a mix. They can bring old strings back to
life on an acoustic guitar in an artificial sort of way.

The ones I have sound pretty much alike and the workmanship is pretty
decent.

Just a question... Why do you wish to buy them before knowing whether
they are any good?

I would try getting a hold of a couple and trying them out before
purchasing.

Just my 2¢ :)

I haven't... but I wouldn't buy THREE mics that I haven't heard in any case;
if I really had to, I would buy one, and if it's good, I'd then order two
more.

Be wary of recommendations; you're the only one who knows what's needed for
your project.

I bought 4 C1000's without auditioning them
used them once and sold them all for 400$ just to get rid of them as
quickly as possible

Oh yea which ones ? Which ones do you like for acoustic /nylon guitar?
I have two e 100's that I thought was a mistake until I try others mic's
lately, I have_ faith _ in them now. Also I have them sitting out for 5
years recording my students and they held up with a many .many short drops.
I guess mic sitting out is not a do thing minus the drops?

IME a mic that is appropriate for live performance use is not a fragile
thing. When you drop stuff it matters how far you drop it and on what.

OT, and perhaps old news. OTOH, you might find comparison of the two
following web pages to be amusing:

http://www.cadmics.com/contact.htm

"Testing, one, two three, testing" ;-)

http://www.astatic.com/commercial/contact_body.htm

"Breaker 1-9?" ;-)

Note that the customer service numbers are the same plus/minus the extension
number.

Note that one manufacturing facility is at 341 Harbor St. and the other is
at is at 341 Harbor Street. Is the St. shorter than the Street? ;-)

Have you seen a mic reviewed in the last 10 years (before then, nobody
"reviewed" mics) that didn't say that?

Nobody here has said that the CAD mic is a bad choice (I don't think)
but mics are very personal and you really shouldn't buy a mic that you
can't hear first, or at least that you can't return after trying it in
your own working environment.

The most important thing you can ask the seller is "will you take it
back and give me a refund if it doesn't work for me?" If you have that
agreement, you can try anything.

Ok, if I don't like the sound I'll sell it here at the seem price that I
paid it.
At the last I risk to lost only the shipping costs if it don't do for me.
Thanks for the advice
