I'm still waiting for a demo. The reviews online make it sound like a
pretty good game. Although I'm confused by some ppl in here reporting that
this game isn't a FPS. From what I can tell it's a cross between FPS and a
Strategy game.

BTW Anyone know if this game will run under Win9X? It's not listed under
min specs on the web sites.

http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/brothersinarms

"... The good news is that Brothers in Arms features some extremely
innovative and engaging gameplay. From one perspective, it plays out like
most first-person shooters, with lots of WWII weapons and a variety of
objectives that revolve around fighting waves of Krauts in a variety of
outdoor environments. In an interesting twist, there's no crosshair to help
you aim -- the closest you'll get is the ability to look down your iron
sights. (Correction: a crosshair can be enabled in the game's options
menu. - Ed.) You won't find any health kits or armor packs, either; instead
of the standard numerical health indicator, a colored icon represents your
general health status, and the game gives you visual cues through blurring
and blood splattering on the screen, which does a good job of making you
feel like part of the action. And it's an exciting battlefield to be a part
of, with plenty of explosions and sound bringing the battles to life.

The star of the show and the real innovation, however, is the emphasis on
squad combat and way you control your squadmates, who fight with you every
step of the way. Like any good game, you're eased into things: you start
with a single team at your control, then multiple fireteams, and you'll even
get to order tanks around. Early on, the action occasionally stops for quick
lessons on using cover, suppression fire, and the nifty "situational
awareness view" that allows you to view the situation from above so you can
plot an attack. It's all managed by an extremely simple control scheme that
takes virtually no time to get the hang of, and your squadmates do an
excellent job of taking orders without getting lost."

Yeah but what about multiplayer online with other people?

NO! The AWM is powerful enough from a standing/crouching position. Adding
in prone will make it too powerful.

You can filter out empty and full servers. If you really want to, you can
click on the Players heading to sort the list by number of players on the
server (although it's not much help - normally you pick either a favourite
or a low-latency server).

>FF on/off, text verbatim,

Doing this might require a protocol change and would cause a series of
complaints on the appropriate forums. It may also be difficult, since the
available games store friendly fire status in a different method (TFC uses
a bitfield, while HLDM uses a Teamplay setting). Of course, it's something
I'd like to see as well.

i'm happy to know you also oppose steam, so welcome!

what is more important your rights as a consumer, your own freedom and
your own dignity or a single pc game?

and are you so insanely crazy about dod to forget about all the damage
steam does to you as a pc gamer?

> petitions, what is that going to do?

its not only petitions but much more you can do
i can only say to you what i've been doing since november, since hl2
was released
.. refuse to buy hl2
.. refuse to buy any other valve game unless they take away steam
.. i spread the word about the damage steam does to all my friends
.. i've been posting in this group about the damage steam does
.. i signed various petitions against steam
now i agree this is not enough and more must be done... so these are
also things i want to do in the future
.. create a webside dedicated to fight against steam
.. join other pc gamers and create an association of pc gamers so we
together can be stronger and do a better fight
.. pressure the media to talk about steam cause they have been silent
and that has happened cause they don't want to make valve angry...
yes for me the media is completely sold out to publishers like valve
.. buy space in news media to publish the truth about steam and how
damaging it is for pc games
.. pressure regulators and authorities for the need to intervene, just
like the german government did by forcing changes in retail hl2
so as you see there is much we can do, really very much, so we can't
give up now!
never give up!
fight steam!
fight valve!
things you can do right now:
.. boycott every product from valve!
.. warn all your friends about steam!
.. sign in anti steam petitions!
.. actively promote awareness among pc gamers about the damage steam does
we can do alot!
never forget its not them alone creating the rules but we also have a
say in the matter! we are partners so they can't decide for ourselves

we cannot give up!
we must never stop the fight
i will not stop the fight
the day i stop it only means i gave up completely on pc games but i don't
expect that to happen soon or even ever cause i believe i'll die playing
pc games

i reply to the good threads and you never had any problems creating good

oh yes we had noticed you winding down on buying pc games

> month. Then it got to be only 1 a month, and now it seems like it's only
> 2-3 a year.

do you find it reasonable a 2 or 3 pc game purchase each year?
i don't! i find it not admissible for a true pc gamer!
that's the amount you must buy in a month! not a year!

> for the year. ;) How about you? I heard that you're strapped for cash

this month i've bought 3... all of them budget...
i still have painkiller black edition to buy and will do it beginning
next month with full price and i'm still waiting for psychotoxic to be
released in europe...
next i was hopping more 2004 titles would drop price like, farcry, doom3
tribes, riddick, pacific assault, men of valor, shadow ops, but the only
2004 title i seen with a excellent price is bloodlines and i hope to get
a copy very soon

fortunately pc gamers don't need to buy all the games they want at the
same time... they can spread buying over a fair amount of months so its
more easy to have a budget for them all

> I've got some games on my wish list (BF2, CoD2, Freedom Force 2, BiA, ...)

why do you have on your list ONLY PC GAMES NOT RELEASED when you have
so many of them released and you haven't bought them!
i'm sorry to say but it seams you always put in your wish list those
which haven't been released so you have an excuse to not buy pc games

> I just hope they're downloadable and that they run on WinME. ;)

i ignore obvious and gratuitous provocations

> BTW I have thought about WinXP, but I'm also thinking of the new AMD64, and

winxp yes, but buy the home edition, pro is a waste of money, and also
try to get the oem version which is cheaper...

amd is great for cpu! and the 64 is the hottest right so i think its the
cpu of choice for us gamers... but you don't need any 64 bits os or even
64 bits pc games... amd64 is the right choice and fast for the 32 bits os
like xp home and all those great 32 bits games like farcry

> now they're talking about the dual cpus, .... So what's the word on Win64

dual cpus is for server we don't need it for pc games, so forget about it
as for dual or more core cpus that's for the future again not for us to
bother with right now...

winxp 64 i haven't seen the price but for sure it will have only a pro
version and we don't need it! again plain simple winxp home is the best
no need for more cause microsoft loves giving us excuses to pay more
to take advantage of amd64 you don't need winxp 64 cause for what i read
amd64 runs 20% faster any 32 bit os and 32 bit game, so a 64 bit cpu yes
but a 64 bit os no

> OS? Is it suppose to be backwards compatible? What OS is needed for
> dual cpus? What's a gamer to do?

os = winxp home oem version the cheapest you can find

backward compatible? = choose amd64 but stick with os in 32 bits cause
why give more when you will not take advantage for now and yes we don't
have any guaranty it will be completely backward compatible... play it
save, stick with 32 bit os

dual cpus? i guess you mean dual core cpu... has amd released them?
again i don't see why wasting more... so my very modest advice cause
i know very little about hardware and you for sure know much more, is
amd64 is the right processor but stick with a 32 bit os and dual core
and 64 bit it not for now and no need to waste money on them

> Save a tree.

save a tree? but what the hell are you now? some kind of earth saviour
messiah??? come on! get your act together! we are in a pc game group!
so instead say... save pc games!
