about 4 days ago my computer stopped recognizing my cd-rom and my cd-writer now I can no longer write or read a cd. I downloaded aspichk and ran it, it read "aspi is properly installed and fully operational, However no host adapters have been detected (0xE8). I have emailed my computer manufacturer and they sent me a list on what I can do to get my computer to recognize and reinstall my cd drives. none of there suggestions have worked. Does any one have any ideas on how I can fix this?
thanks for any helpful ideas.

are they both on the same ide port ? perhaps your ide controller is going bad try slaving one off the working HDD ide port and see if it is recognized if so then that might be the problem also try to reinstall the mobo drivers or remove the ide ports in device manager and reboot letting windoze redetect them
