Bluetooth in the V710 will not be fully functional as indicated on

But it does support "handsfree, headset, and dial-up-networking
profiles" so it will work will connect to PCs/laptops/handhelds to use
as a modem and also car kits. Some guy on HowardForums.com has one
and he posted that he was able to use Bluetooth with Verizon's
NationalAccess (i.e. Express Network) on his PowerBook and iPaq.

You might want to read the whole thread since the guy that has the
phone gives a lot of info. He even got it working with Motorola's
Bluetooth car kit.

Your assumption seems to be right. It seems like Verizon specifically
requested Motorola for the v710's to operate in this idiotic fashion.
