Different Speeds

My father has a Pentium III 700 MHz based computer originally fitted with a 5400 rpm 20 GB IDE drive. If we buy a new 7200 rpm 60 GB IDE drive, will he be able to take advantage of the higher speed drive ? Or will it also work at 5400 rpm ? Or will the transfer rates be that of the common bus which may be built for a lower speed ?

The speed at which the drive spins is only dependent on the drive itself. The transfer rate, however, can be affected by the nature of the motherboard.
