I recently bought a gaming oriented laptop, Inspiron 9300 with nvidia
6800 card.
What is the best in each listed below?

1. air/vehicle based FPS with 20+ players: I plan to buy UT2K4. Your
thoughts?
2. online coop RPG, no monthly fees: Is Diablo2 still the best?
3. online racing game: I am looking for a game like NFS with cops..
4. voice chat: which do you recommend? Do different companies VC
software work together via a standard?
5. headset: which do you recommend?

How good is Anarchy Online? It supposed to be free to play online now...

UT2004 is good, BF1942 is very worthwhile too.

*shrug*, this is the wrong group for this question. I personally like
Guild Wars that is coming out on the 28th of this month.

*shrug*.

Depends on which game, who you are playing with, and what they
currently use. Skype is great for 1-on-1, Teamspeak is very good for
groups.

>5. headset: which do you recommend?

*shrug*, probably depends a lot on budget.

Its an okay MMORPG, but I still don't play it even though it is free.
I am waiting for Guild Wars.

Battlefield 1942 is my favorite vehicle-oriented FPS but I haven't played
UT2k4 yet, and I haven't spent any time on BF1942 since WoW was released.

D2 is good, Neverwinter Nights also, and look into Guild Wars, I've been
playing the beta and it's pretty damn cool and supports co-op adventuring
(and also PVP if that's your thing). No online fee for it.

Sorry don't have a clue, not into racing.

AFAIK there isn't a universal standard. There's TeamSpeak and several
others, most have free trials, I suggest trying out the free stuff at
least and see what you think about it in general. Google is your friend
for this.

I use a simple $40ish Labtec one, seems to work fine for me. Don't know
the model though.

In it's prime it was pretty decent. IMHO it's behind the times compared
to World of Warcraft but you might like it. Certainly I think it's worth
giving it a shot. I'll warn you that the learning curve for that game is
steeper than other MMOG's, and if you're totally new to the genre it
might be off-putting.

If you're not totally adverse to a fee, World of Warcraft is the most fun
I've had online in years and years. Well worth the $15/mo IMHO. Of
course, you need to be able to invest at least 30 or 40 hours per month
in it to be worth it. I think my /played time in it is somewhere in the
neighborhood of 14 days and I've been playing since launch in November so
that puts me in the "casual" player category. That means I've played it
maybe 60 hours per month, but by far most of that time was in the first
couple of months. WoW is very newbie friendly also.

Must admit, the UT games always left me a little cold.
Too twitchy for me. Battlefield 1942 is better.

Skype is good if you want to talk to a few people.

Plantronics USB headsets with noise-cancelling have a good rep;
I bought the DSP-300 and am very happy with it.
