Guide to creating a recovery partition?

I'm looking into creating a recovery partition. I'd like it to work like a commercial recovery solution where I hit F12 while booting up and have the partition recover the rest of the computer from an image file. I've never attempted anything like this before but I'd love to hear anyone's feedback on the subject. Thanks in advance.

when you finish installing windows you can run backup utility and backup your freshly installed windows.
