Sper slow dsl internet speed

We have dsl pro and our internet speed is unbarebly slow, it says we get only 2.5mbs which i dont believe for a second because when i download im lucky if i get 300kbs same with uploading because it says we get 170kbs which i dont believe either. why?
i did all the basic check connections and all that, but nothing changed... how do i fix this?

Run a speed test http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest see what you get.

If there are issues, contact your ISP. DSL speeds are affected by a bunch of things, quality of inside phone wiring, distance from the central hub, wiring on the telephone pole.
