my laptop came with this wifi card(not a blue tooth combo). it is considered a 1x1 but has 2 connections on the card. would i get better signal with 2 antennas hooked up instead of one? i am considering installing an additional antenna if so.

In all honesty, that sounds like a question better directed at the manufacturer. For all we know, the second antenna might not even be active!
