Do you use FAT32? I think that both Windows 2000 and XP limits the maximum FAT32 partition to 32GB. God knows why, since FAT32 supports much larger disks/partitions. Try using NTFS or divide the drive into 2 or more partitions.

fat32 will support the full capacity of your hard drive.

how many partitions do you have? do scandisk and see what happens. the firmware on the bios will say its a 60gb, but if there is something wrong with the hard drive platters this could happen.

i formatted it using NTFS, one partition of 32gb and then it wouldn't let me do anymore. I'll run a scandisk when i get home. what should i look for in scandisk?

so are you tellin me the partition is 32gb? if so, then all you have to do is delete the partition. once deleted make a new one and make sure u use the full 60gb as one partition. if you need help, i or anyone here could give you step by step on how to do this.

err... i'm on win xp with a 80gb, two 100gb and one 120gb

the 80gb and one of the 100gb are both in fat32. the 100gb is full and the 80bg is about 65bg full.

Whatever, I was trying to say that a max of 32MB is all win Xp install will allow as the install partition as a fat32 file system! Yeah i can get plenty of fat 32 space and I will stay that way, NTFS is for commercial shite and security and mostly slower.
