Hello,
Can I use a Linksys WRT54G router to get a signal for my desktop? I am using a modem that has wifi downstairs and want to get a signal for a desktop I have in the kids room upstairs

To answer your question - Yes, you can use the WRT54G to connect devices to a wireless network. Assuming you don't want to purchase a wireless adapter for the desktops in question then read on.

Find out what version of the WRT54G you have - http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linksys_WRT54G/GL/GS/GX

Then you can use firmware like DD-WRT and turn the router into a bridge. Once everything is set up correctly you will be able to hard wire devices like your desktops into the WRT54G and then use the device as a Bridge. Which will allow you too connect to your wireless access point located "downstairs".

Find the version with the link I provided above and click on it. It will give you instructions on how to install DD-WRT. Then you...
