Thanks for the help in the past. Now that I can connect remotely to my Windows box, I would like to be able to gain full access to my Linux box once into my network. Is there some sort of VPN solution for Windows to Linux that I could run on my internal network? Maybe a better way to get full access to both boxes remotely?

Sincerely,
Lost

if you can access your linux box from your win 2k box locally, you should be able to access it throught the VPN. After you have successfully completed connection to your network through the VPN tunnel, you are essentially 'in' the network as though you were local. All shared network resources that are available to you locally should be available to you remotely, assuming you are logging in as a user (administrator) that has permission to access all resources on the network.

have you tried accessing the linux box through the network remotely and had trouble. if so, what happened? let us know exactly, so we can assist, amigo.

I guess what I'm actually asking is how to gain full control of my Linux box from my Win box. I completely understand shares, and the ever famous ftp for directory access, but I would like to have the sign on screen for Linux on my Windows box (essentially remotely running the OS from my Windows box) which would mean I could VPN into my Win box and have full control over both machines.

Hope you all follow.
Thanks again for the help, just trying to have more fun with my new DSL line.

Thanks

Sounds like you need an Xwindows server to run on your Windows box - something like Hummingbird, there are a bunch of others. Here are some links:

Most of these aren't free, but there may be freeware in there somewhere. Good luck.

oh, i see. you can remotely take over a win 2k server machine through a vpn connection using terminal services in management mode. i dont think you can do this on a win 2k pro box, though. as far as linux, im out of the loop. sorry. good luck. im sure there are many third party apps that can help, such as the links above.

im trying to do something similar (as far as windows and linux goes), I have a 2k box, and another dualbooting red hat 7.1 and win98, (another couple of pc's on network but that dont matter), network connection fine.
2k box has printer. I want to be able to browse the 2k box and use the printer from my linux box. I finally managed to get the linux box showing in network neighborhood, and can browse it. But when I connect to the 2k box, I get "access denied"
To enable win/linux connectivity, as far as Im aware you need to use SAMBA, thats what I used and my limited success is outlined above. I would like to replace the 2k server box with linux, but I need to be able to work the dam thing as this has common used files, mp3's and all general stuff stored on for me and other pc's to access, it also has the printer.
If you make more progress, please post what/how you did, I'll do the same.
