Can anybody give me some tips (for a beginner!!) on connecting up a
MOTU828II with ADA8000 ADAT/preamp unit please?

I have lightpipe between ADA8000 ADAT OUT & MOTU ADAT IN. Do I need to sync
this & if so what is the best (or only?) way without buying more gear?

Thanks
Eddie

Just set the 828mkII to use lightpipe-in as a clock source, and you'll be
in good shape.

You need to synchronize the word clock. If one unit has a word clock
output and the other has a word clock input, the simplest and most
likely to work thing to do is connect them together and set the one
that's receiving the word clock signal to use that external word
clock.

An alternate approach, if either will accommodate it, is to use the
incoming data as the word clock source. This will be a setting on the
MOTU's software control panel or on the ADA8000.

One thing for sure - you can't let the two devices' word clocks run
indepenently. That will get you clicks for sure. No telling what
method will work best without trying, though.
