Seeing how I wanted to get our thoughts together on what steps you should take when installing Windows, I now want to know what settings you put into your Internet Explorer's Internet Security options. (Tools > Options > Security tab > Custom Level for the Internet Zone)

When I clean install Windows, I want to be able to save these settings so I don't have to go through it again. Even better, what's the key in the registry that holds this information for future implementation? It would be invaluable in shaving off a couple of minutes...for anyone. Please post what you do in regards to this.

Thanks!
Bryan

I'm not absolutely positive about which the keys could be backed up in the Registry.

I do know that the settings for the Zones are listed under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Internet Settings\TemplatePolicies. There's also some information under a Zones subkey. But whether this reflects the user preferences currently set in the browser, I can't say.

I'll look around a few websites and see if I can come up with more info on the subject over the next couple of days.

See ya ...

Also, there is an IE Administrator Kit (IEAK 6) you can download that gives you capability to customize security setting. I haven't tested it yet, but went I get home I think I will. I'm not sure if this is what you had in mind, but here is one of the things it says you can do:

Security and Privacy Settings

As a corporate administrator, you can manage security zones, privacy settings, and content ratings for your company. You can customize the settings for each security zone. You can set the level of privacy regarding cookies for all of your browser users. Through content ratings, you can prevent users from viewing content that may be considered offensive or otherwise inappropriate within your corporate setting.

Thanks for that link. I'm checking it out right now, too. It seems like there's a lot to look at, but it's all good.
