How to extend my network where my wifi doesn't reach?

I have a network of one router which servers both LAN and wifi, my laptop can only use wifi to connect but the range of the router doesn't reach the third floor. I need a way to either extend or create a second hot spot but I'm not sure whether to use a repeater, a hub or a switch? this is my first time dealing with a network, any help would be much appreciated.

you can use a repeater/extender which will wirelessly connect to your router and retransmit the signal

While I'm quite sure that Emerald has forgotten more than I've ever known about networking, another possibility is to set up a remote access point connected by either an Ethernet cable or something like a pair of powerline adapters to attach to an AP on the third floor.

If you try the Powerline adopter, make sure to use the 500Mb/s once.

depending on the wire length inside the wall the 200Mb/s might only give you 30Mb/s transfer speed.
