How do I find the security type for my wireless route

i have a blackberry bold 9700 thats unlocked , i bought it is miami and im back in trinidad . i connected the phone to my wifi at home but when i went in browser tha promt message saying:data connection refused to the wireless network and your blackberry cannot connect a data session to the WAP gateway. if this problem persists, please contact you service provider.

From my understanding of the error message your receiving the browser is trying to use the phone network instead of your local network for internet access. It's assuming you should have a data service. Which I assume you don't.

So the question is can you use the supplied browser app to connect to the internet without a plan? Which if that app needs to authenticate with RIM servers I'm going to guess not. Fiddle through your settings and see if you can disable anything that says "data plan" or the like.
