Wired network disconnected

Gents:

Running Ubuntu_10.04 on AMD_quad and hardwire w/ATT-Uverse:

This morning my main system booted **without** engaging internet service. The top panel showed **no** ethernet connection icon, and the sys-monitor for networking was flatlined. Browsers could not connect to anything.

The ATT modem seemed to be showing all the appropriate green lights. I immediately punched up the-Web on my 2nd Linux box and a legacy WinXP_Dell and **both** showed generic internet response ... web access perfect ... no issue at all with connection. So ...

suspecting a main system hardware issue on the MSI_790 mobo I switched ethernet ports and immediately recovered fully functional web connection on my main Ubuntu box -- with the caveat that every boot, the ethernet-icon swirls about for a while then displays a temp. popup error message "WIRED NETWORK DISCONNECTED** before showing the proper connected icon and delivering WWW function.

What to make of it?
