So, here's the deal.

A month a go bought an ABS computer. Good machine, not too expensive, plus I knew what hardware they were putting into it, notably:

Athlon XP 1800
Gigabyte 7VTXH+ Motherboard
Leadtek GeForce2 Ti
Creative Audigy.

So, the thing worked great for a while, and then I got this strange problem. It first started in RTCW Multiplayer, and soon was in all my games. As soon as I started the game, or sometimes 5-10 seconds into a game, the screen would lock up, and the only audio outpot was the last split of sound repeated over and over again. Btw, same problem in photoshop 6.0!!

Things I tried:
1) DirectX diagnostic --> no problems.
2) Pretty much every nvidia driver out there
3) Latest motherboard drivers
4) Latest audigy drivers...
5) Reinstalling windows completely.
6) Toningt down AGP from 4x to 1x..
and last..
7) A new video card (Radeon 8500)

So great. Got the new card, all psyched to have problems fixed, but no. Exact same problem w/ different video card.

I am completely out of ideas. Any clues?

hey,

i had a very very similar problem with my p3 733 when i first put it together with new geforce2gts back in the day. like you, i tried seemingly everything to try and get it to work... to no avail. well, after pulling my hair out for weeks, i decided to try and swap out the ram that i was using, even though it was brand new... you guessed it, worked perfectly fine with different ram.

so i'd try and borrow a stick from someone. if it doesn't solve your problems, you've only wasted a couple of minutes.

good luck,
rhino
