Come on guys... I don't mean to ask dumb questions, and yes, I knew that RAID 0 is a risky business (needed stable r/w rate & speed), but doesn't anybody have a clue about any clever tricks? I mean, this would be cool to know for all of you, even if you don't have this particular problem right now... Please?

One of the HD in my Promise FastTrak 100 RAID stripe array is going bad.

HUMBLE REQUEST
Anyone who can help me with the problem described below will be prized in my evening prayers :-) for the rest of my life.

PROBLEM
Impossible to read the array since every time I hit a file that happened to be in the damaged area, the array goes offline, and I must reboot my system. The array contains over 30000 large files (about 100GB) and I won't live long enough to check every single file while constantly rebooting my system and with a HD damage growing faster for each new reboot.

Promise Tech basically told me that the only thing I can do is to backup my data (!) and disconnect the HDs from the Promise card and use some other utilities to troubleshoot & repair the bad one. They also mentioned that all the data will be probably destroyed... Nice.
Thank you Promise!
Just in case let me mention that a RAID in a stripe mode is dispersing the data between the two HD in such way that only the particular RAID card drivers and the availability of both HD simultaneously can allow to read the actual data.

Since I'm unable to read the array, I still can't figure out what Promise Tech was thinking when they advised me to backup my data, but then they maybe just wanted to lend me a helping hand...

WHAT I REALLY NEED IS
- Somehow to 'skip' bad files when reading the data
(i.e. without the array going offline all the time)
- Utility to mark/lockout bad clusters so that the rest of
the array can continue to function without interruption.
- Utility to identify which HD in the stripe array is bad.

ANYONE, PLEASE?
Thanks in advance!
