I've just tried my hand at building a PC for the first time and I'm having a problem with getting the sound card to work. It's an AMD system ASUS A7V333 1800+ it has sound on the board - I think that's part of my problem. I installed a SoundBlaster card - it seems like I should be able to get sount one way or the other. I can't figure out the settings. I did load the SB drivers from the disk. Any help would be appreciated, I'm going crazy. TIA

1. Make sure you disable the onboard sound in the BIOS.
2. Make sure your soundcard is not located in the PCI slot just below the AGP slot.
3. Make sure you have the latest VIA 4in1 drivers.

4. Try the latest drivers for the soundcard.

Also, make sure you have your sound card selected in Control Panel/Sound and Audio Devices.

Thanks for responding!

I have to ask, how do I disable in BIOS? The directions for install said that unless I knew what to do I should avoid messing with those.?
Any help is appreciated
Thank you

As your system is booting (when you first see something on your monitor, not during Windows start up), hit the Delete button. Poof! You're in your BIOS. Using the up and down arrows, scroll down to Onboard PCI Device Control (or something to that affect) then hit Enter. You should the see Onboard PCI Audio Controller (or something to that affect). Scroll down and hit enter or you may have to use the + or - keys to change the values. When you've disabled it, hit esc until you get back to the main BIOS screen. Scroll down to Save and Exit. This should all be in your manual. Do yourself a favor and read it thoroughly.
